BOI 2022

Lübeck, Germany – April 28 - May 3, 2022.

About BOI

The Baltic Olympiad in Informatics (BOI) is a programming contest for secondary school students from countries around or close to the Baltic sea. Over 60 contestants from 10 countries compete against each other, solving difficult problems of an algorithmic nature. Each country sends their top 6 contestants from their national olympiads which take place in the months beforehand.

BOI was founded in 1995, with only three participating countries. Since then, it has grown to include 10 countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, and Sweden.  In addition, teams from other countries may be invited as guests.

The BOI shares its competition format with the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), which is the annual world programming championship for secondary school students. On each of two contest days, the contestants participate in a 5-hour round. They are given a number of difficult algorithmic problems and are required to solve these by writing programs. Their programs are then evaluated and scored based on both efficiency and correctness.  Several BOI countries take BOI results into account when selecting their teams for IOI.

BOI 2022

In 2022, BOI will take place in the traditional German Baltic Sea city of Lübeck. After 2007 (Güstrow) and 2013 (Rostock) and 2021 (online), this will be the fourth time to host a BOI in Germany.  BWINF is the German BOI partner and generally responsible for organizing BOI 2022.  The competition and other events will be hosted by University of Lübeck and its computer science institutes. Johanneum, a secondary school in Lübeck, will be partner school of BOI 2022.

With around 100 participants, BOI is not a small event. BWINF will provide funds that will partially cover basic cost.  All BOI 2022 partners are welcoming further sponsors who are enthusiastic about making BOI 2022 a memorable event for both Lübeck and the young, brilliant IT talents who will be visiting Lübeck and Germany for competition as well as for making new friends and for bringing great memories home.
